Top prizes for Kelty gardeners in Beautiful Fife awards
12 SeptemberKelty gardeners have been celebrating after they picked up top prizes at the Beautiful Fife Gardens 2011 awards ceremony held at the Rothes Halls, Glenrothes.
This special event is organised each year to celebrate and recognize all the hard work and dedication local residents put into their gardens.
Donald Meiklem took top honours in the ‘Flower Landscaped’ category, while George Henderson won the ‘Hanging Basket/Container’ section.
Judges assessed every entry in their particular category throughout Fife. A medal (Gold, Silver or Bronze) is awarded to each entrant, based on the number of points attained. The Area winners for each category receive their medal and shield and the overall category winner’s trophy is presented to the entrant that achieves the highest marks in their category.
This year, over 100 Fifers attended the awards ceremony and Provost Frances Melville presented the awards. The overall category winners were:
Flower Formal – Anita McKain, Freuchie
Flower Landscaped – Donald Meiklem, Kelty;
Vegetable – Jim Thomson, Dalgety Bay;
Hanging Basket/Container – George Henderson, Kelty;
Mixed Garden – David Drummond, Freuchie.
Provost Frances Melville said: “Once again the enthusiasm, dedication and talent of Fife’s gardeners has shone at this year’s awards ceremony. The category entrants were exceptionally strong and the winners should be very proud for achieving such recognition.”
