Police weekend crackdown on anti-social behaviour in Kelty

Kelty Police have been continuing their fight against Anti-Social Behaviour and the upset and annoyance that it causes within the town with a further weekend of action.
The campaign started on Friday 3rd June and throughout Saturday 4th June and was specifically aimed at targeting and tackling hot spots in the Cowdenbeath, Lochgelly, Benarty, Cardenden and Kelty areas.  Community Officers and Plain Clothes Officers, working with assistance from Special Constables and Fife Council Community Wardens, were deployed as part of the weekend of action.

Local Community Inspector Ken Stickings said: "Acts of Anti-Social Behaviour can have a significant detrimental effect on everyone within our communities, both young and old.  At local Community Engagement Meetings people tell us that this is an issue and we are striving to make our communities better places to live. Our weekend initiatives have been very effective recently, yielding a number of positive results with constructive feedback from members of the community, as well as a reduction in anti social behaviour style calls to our hotspot areas.

“Over the weekend, more than 30 locations were visited and patrolled by officers as a result of information provided by members of the public.  This resulted in a number of people being issued with £40 ASBO Fixed Penalty Tickets for offences ranging from consuming alcohol in a public place to urinating in the street.  A quantity of illegal drugs was also recovered with people being reported accordingly.

“The message is simple and clear to everyone in that communities are not prepared to suffer or put up with this behaviour and we as local police officers, will take every step to target those responsible with the resources available to us.  We are acting in the best interests of the community as a whole and I would urge any member of the public who wishes to report an issue then please don't suffer in silence and let us know. You do not have to give your name and can remain anonymous.

“I will also continue my plea to parents of young people in the area to become more involved in their own community by knowing where your child is at night. Who are they meeting, are they in a safe environment? I am sure you do not want the police at your door with your son or daughter who has been found in the company of others drinking alcohol, committing acts of vandalism, under the influence of drugs, being charged with an offence or even worse, the victim of a crime.”

Fifty years ago in Scotland the only place people could buy alcohol ref Spirits and beer etc ,was in an Off Licence shop who had to obtain a licence by local Courts, people will remember Condies in Kelty down next to No 3 Goth, was the only place in Kelty, each town and city had its only allocated premises, and it was only open at licencing times 10am-3pm no one under 21 was served, cigarettes were not sold either to anyone. Now we have drink of all sorts sold everywhere from Corner shops to supermarkets and sold to anyone although its 18 legal age. reason we have so many drunken teenagers on the streets and parks,

People wouldnt even be able to buy wine or spirits at their local pubs as the costs were double what the off licence charged, and it wasnt the done thing, Scotland didnt have streets filled with drunken teenagers or so manydrunken adults then.it was very rare to see drunken kids in the streets.

It is far to easy to obtain wine beer and spirits today anywhere in Scotland and until the law is changed back to Licence times and only Off-Licence shops allowed to sell,, Scotland wont change, raising prices will NOT stop excessive drinking. And the MPs wont asked for unpopular laws to be made in case no one votes them in,Im sure the Police of Scotland will agree 99% of trouble and killings and assaults are drink related which is a burden on the NHS,

Dont you agree Licence Laws should be changed back to Off Licence shops,, its a wellknown fact that many corner shops, and small shops will sell drink to anyone otherwise they wont survive selling bread and cakes in towns and villages...it worked before in the whole of Britain time it started again..

Yeah give them and ASBO to wear like a gold medal. Perhaps if the kids had somewhere do go it would help the social order
