Police weekend crackdown on anti-social behaviour in Kelty
14 JuneKelty Police have been continuing their fight against Anti-Social Behaviour and the upset and annoyance that it causes within the town with a further weekend of action.
The campaign started on Friday 3rd June and throughout Saturday 4th June and was specifically aimed at targeting and tackling hot spots in the Cowdenbeath, Lochgelly, Benarty, Cardenden and Kelty areas. Community Officers and Plain Clothes Officers, working with assistance from Special Constables and Fife Council Community Wardens, were deployed as part of the weekend of action.
Local Community Inspector Ken Stickings said: "Acts of Anti-Social Behaviour can have a significant detrimental effect on everyone within our communities, both young and old. At local Community Engagement Meetings people tell us that this is an issue and we are striving to make our communities better places to live. Our weekend initiatives have been very effective recently, yielding a number of positive results with constructive feedback from members of the community, as well as a reduction in anti social behaviour style calls to our hotspot areas.
“Over the weekend, more than 30 locations were visited and patrolled by officers as a result of information provided by members of the public. This resulted in a number of people being issued with £40 ASBO Fixed Penalty Tickets for offences ranging from consuming alcohol in a public place to urinating in the street. A quantity of illegal drugs was also recovered with people being reported accordingly.
“The message is simple and clear to everyone in that communities are not prepared to suffer or put up with this behaviour and we as local police officers, will take every step to target those responsible with the resources available to us. We are acting in the best interests of the community as a whole and I would urge any member of the public who wishes to report an issue then please don't suffer in silence and let us know. You do not have to give your name and can remain anonymous.
“I will also continue my plea to parents of young people in the area to become more involved in their own community by knowing where your child is at night. Who are they meeting, are they in a safe environment? I am sure you do not want the police at your door with your son or daughter who has been found in the company of others drinking alcohol, committing acts of vandalism, under the influence of drugs, being charged with an offence or even worse, the victim of a crime.”
