  • Police have traced a group of youngsters who caused damage in a Kelty playpark

Young vandals who seriously damaged a play park in Kelty have been traced by local police, officers have confirmed.

Police moved to trace the younsters responsible for the recent damage, valued at around £1,700, both at Kelty Community Centre and Kelty Primary School. The police have now traced a group of local youths responsible for the various acts of vandalism at both buildings over the past few weeks.

Sergeant Stuart Clark, Community Ward Sergeant for The Lochs area said: "Local community officers have spent a considerable amount of time since these incidents were reported, gathering evidence and speaking to several identified witnesses. This has led to the identification of several local youths who have been traced and will now be the subject of a report to the Reporter to the Children's panel.

"These wilful and reckless acts have had a major impact upon local community amenities and several members of the community have expressed outrage at the damaged caused which has been mindless and totally unwarranted.

"I would take this opportunity to make it clear to those involved in this type of activity, that both the community and Police service will work together tirelessly to trace those responsible in an effort to make our communities safer and in doing so better places in which to live and work.

Cowdenbeath Area Chief Inspector Ross Bennet commented: "This is clearly an excellent piece of work in quickly detecting these incidents, however I must stress, that our partners in the local media have helped us tremendously in response to this enquiry by highlighting the damage caused at these premises.

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank the local media and members of the local community for their assistance in this matter and also to ask that any member of the public who has information in respect of any incident contact Fife Constabulary on 08451 600 5702 or through Crimestoppers on , where all information will be dealt with in confidence."

Two other local youngsters have also been reported to the Children's Panel over an incident at Clentry Nursery in Kelty.

Police confirmed that the eight-year-old boy and 12-year-old girl were the subject of a report following an incident where slates were removed from the roof and thrown through the glass panels of a greenhouse.
