Kelty Delicacies when you were Young

When Young we all had favourites to eat.I loved stovies made by Mrs Smith Big Ernies Mum then she would play on piano , "In the Mood"Auld Jock Smith would smoke his pipe and tell us about Tamira Press the Russian woman shot putter,Mario Corrieri used to make best hamburgher rolls,,Tablet and Coconut icing made by Mrs Grieg in Union street,in early 1950s people didnt have much and delicacies was a peece made of twa sheaves o mothers pride with echo marg and sugar or condensed milk, what a feast,and if at pictures and seen cowboys having coffee use to make me think of Oxo.s mmmmmmmmmmm,only coffee was in a bottle blue label with a guy and moustache on side,wi coodnae afford coffee, and only time ye saw a paris bun was at the gala day. I loved Paris buns frae the coop bakers, and perkins oh thay wer braw.

I never tasted a banana till i was working in the lindsay pit and could afford it, changed days noo its dear fer a banana 10/- fer wan,
whin thay first cam oot folk ate them with skin on yuck they were,,, another luxury delicasy was fish paste and meat paste, wonder why even today jars are still same size and three times as dear.and Spam is still in same cans as in ww2

I went tae England wan year and we were gaun fishing and while they were getting on with it I had a snack wee whiley later someone shouted where is the spam I said Oh I ate it, they stated it was the carp bait

O Jings I dinae want to fish fer a big goldfish ye canna eat.

well whit dae ye mind o ye loved eating a s yer delicasy

I always mind getting a Bridie and Bovril at the bus stance cafe after the swimming club at the carnegie baths.   That cafe always had condensation running down the windows.

 

I should come on here and read you favourite things /memories, it makes me think of trying them again like the sugar/condensed milk piece.
