Jane Soutar (Douglas)

by James Douglas

Hello Jane,

In connection to the mining accident of your father (my uncle)

When he was 6 years of age while out playing he was running down the pit bing (Slag Heap ) at Lassodie Mine where he ran onto the railway line where he was struck by the engine ( Pug ) losing his leg and his arm.

When his mother was informed about what had happened she ran down to the scene of the accident where she picked him up in her arms and took him back to the house not realising until she removed his boot that his leg had been severed.

I was lead to believe he was conscious and he said to his mum not to worry about it as it would grow back on again.

Jimmy Douglas.Kelty.

Memories, Nostalgia & History

History doesn't have to be in black & white

Your memory of a local character or a school photo from the last ten years can be just as interesting as wars and Victorians.
