Loving Hands - we knit, crochet and sew for charities
Loving Hands is a group of knitters, crocheters and stitchers who meet up every Monday from 1 to 3 pm in the Community Centre (next to Kelty Public Primary School on Main Street). We have been there every week for over four years now and are a very lively and friendly group. New members always welcome - if you can't knit or crochet but would like to learn then feel free to come along too - we are only too happy to share our talents with newbies :0)
Loving Hands makes items for lots of different charities and we have challenges every three months to keep our members interested :0) Recent challenges have included chemo dolls, chicken coats and warm clothing for the elderly in eastern european countries like Moldova and Croatia :0)
Last month we filled a mini bus with kiddies clothes, toys and blankets and it went off to Mongolia with Eleanor and Martin from Forfar who were driving it over there for the Diane Pope charity - the bus will be left there and they will fly home - it takes a month to drive over and they will spend some time helping the kids there before they come back. Street kids and single mums live in the sewers there sleeping on top of the heated sewer pipes - the temperatures drop to minus 40 for 6 months of the year!
Each member pays £2 at the meeting and this includes tea/coffee, biscuits and often home baking too!
Why not pop along - the times fit in perfectly if you have kids at nursery or primary schools! We also accept donations of completed items, wool, patterns, knitting needles, fabric, toy stuffing, old towels, sheets, duvet covers, duvets, cot bumpers, quilts etc. We also recycle old wedding and bridesmaids dresses (they are turned into burial gowns and angel pockets for tiny souls who don't quite make it).
Give us a go - we love to meet new members!
