Kelty is a former mining village in the heartland of Fife's former coalfields, two miles north of Cowdenbeath. The town was established in 1872 with the establishment of the Fife Coal Company, and grew rapidly as the mining industry expanded. Despite the departure of these traditional industries, today Kelty is growing again and boasts a strong community spirit and identity, typified in the local junior football side Kelty Hearts. It has a population of 6000 and the nearby M90 has made Kelty a popular place to live for commuters to Edinburgh. s1kelty.com has been developed to allow residents to share their news, views and opinions, publicise events and display photos and videos.
